How the savings are calculated.
The example generates 4,230 kWh/year, with 2,115 kWh used at home at 50% self-use. Multiplying that by £0.2534/kWh gives £535.94/year in avoided electricity costs. The remaining generation is exported, with £0 export income assumed.
Using the pamphlet’s £1,786 annual bill baseline, the estimate becomes £1,250.06/year. At 25% self-use, the saving is £267.97/year; at 75%, it is £803.91/year. Your daytime electricity demand affects how much solar energy you use directly.
Illustrative simple payback is about 5.85 years (£3,135 divided by £535.94). This excludes maintenance, finance, panel degradation and tariff changes. The electricity tariff is a reference assumption, not a current quotation. Gas usage and standing charges are unchanged.
